eLend: eBook Lending for the Digital Age

Introduction

Welcome to the eLend project website. eLend is a methodology that utilizes blockchain & smart contract technologies to allow libraries to responsibly lend ebooks while respecting copyright law and rights of the content authors. Our proposed solution for ebook lending utilizes the Stellar blockchain for tokenizing ebooks and the Soroban smart contract platform to define a contract that ensures loaned ebooks are only readable by one person. This is accomplished by generating a token when a book is checked out and then delivering an token encrypted ebook file to the user that can only be decrypted with the users address and token.

Objectives

• Develop a system to manage eBook lending using Stellar blockchain.
• Ensure that eBooks can only be checked out by one person at a time.
